Gramin vikas Manch came into existence on 1st January 1999 as a result of socally conscious youth working in different fields like teaching,railways,commerce and farmers etc,but with strong understanding of the issue of the region and more importantly zeal to do something for the cause of the agrarian crisis crippling the region.
The organization was unique in the way it is managed and governed . Not a single person from the governing board work on any of the project or works . The management too does not draw any salaries from the project or the organization . It was done especially lkeeping in mind the costs of the operation and the resopurces needful in the initial stages. At the end of a decade of working so, it is time that this decision is reviewed in the light of the ongoing operation.
The organization operates primarily in the rural areas of Nagpur,Gadchiroli,Chandrapur and Wardhaof Vidarbha. Its Executive Body comprise of 7 members. Management body meets every month and spends considerable time in deciding about it effectiveness as wel as efficiency. The execution of projects in overseen by the executive secretary which is not a paid position. In the light of the present functional model and the fact that the organization was to complete a decade in the development fields,the organization decided to review its strategy and operation and also in the light of developing and building its capacities.This led to a strategic planning process that involved its governing board members and core staff members.
The organization,in last nineteen years since its birth,has been active in three tahsil of Nagpur district viz. Umred,Bhivapur and Kuhi.The network of Self Help Groups is spread across two hundred and eleven villages.This network has been build with the proactive support of MAVIM ,DRDA AND NABARD.
Gramin Vikas Manch, (GVM) is registered organization under Maharashtra society registration Act 1860 from Nagpur. GVM has turned 20 years old now and continues to work rural, urban & tribal poor. The focus is to empower the deprived section of rural and tribal society through intervention in the areas of livelihoods, gender, health, natural resources management, environmental education, skill development, old age services and advocacy to achieve its goal for the betterment of constituencies. GVM current direct Intervention are in more than 310 villages from around 9 blocks of two districts Nagpur and Bhandara of Vidharbha region.
GVM also have indirect intervention on various issue at state and national level through our collaborative partners. GVM has been successful in facilitating people organization and institution, thus increasing the participation, accountability, transparency and ownership of our constituency so that the social transformation process rolls on its own on sustainable mode.
GVM has successfully implemented model of diversion base irrigation, convergence of government skim for the livelihood of poor household is also implemented successfully under Vasundhara integrated watershed development program (IWMP) and livelihood rural agency project (LRA) in three taluka viz Umred, Nagpur Gramin and Hingna in five cluster.
GVM is professionally voluntary development organization working in the partnership with international development organization. GVM is also working with state and national level network like Sadgram Manuskichi Samajik Abhiyan, VANI and MAHAVAN Maharashtra.
